Sara I. James

...Getting words to work^®

I've always been excited about working with words - and getting words to work. My extensive experience in the academic, editorial and business worlds means that I bring both theoretical and practical expertise to any assignment. As a member of PLAIN (Plain Language Association International), my background in languages (French, Russian, German and Italian, as well as English) gives me invaluable insight into cross-cultural communication and multi-national teams.

I've worked in a variety of roles in finance and technology, including at executive level. A Certified Internal Auditor, I am also a member of the Chartered Institute of Internal Auditors' Technical Content and Research Group. I have a PhD from the University of Virginia and over 35 years' teaching, writing, editorial and translation/interpreting experience in the US and Europe.

In 2022, Richard Chambers (former Chairman and CEO of The IIA) named me as an Internal Audit Beacon Award winner - a tremendous honour! You can read more about it here. And in 2025, I received the Chartered Institute of Internal Auditors' J J Morris Distinguished Service Award.
